College of Medicine and Health Science
Health is a cornerstone of national development and prosperity. Recognizing this, Ethiopia is implementing a prevention-based health policy focused on cultivating a healthy and productive citizenry. Higher education institutions play a vital role in realizing this goal by training competent health professionals across a range of disciplines. In alignment with this national vision, Injibara University established the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, a dynamic academic unit dedicated to excellence in healthcare education, research, and community service.
The College was established in 2021 with the launch of three foundational academic programs: Anesthesia, Midwifery, and Nursing. It began with a committed team of seven academic staff members and an inaugural cohort of 84 students. From the outset, the College has prioritized the development of essential teaching infrastructure, including classrooms, offices, equipment, and a functional scalpel laboratory to support practical and research-based learning. Over a short period, the College has shown remarkable growth. It now offers nine undergraduate and seven postgraduate programs. A total of 1,193 students are currently enrolled:
- 131 master’s students (including 23 in the regular program, 18 in the winter program, and 78 in the weekend/extension program), and
- 1,062 undergraduate students in the regular program.
This expansion has been matched by a significant increase in faculty and support staff. The College currently employs 201 staff members, including:
- 40 Assistant Professors
- 102 Lecturers
- 35 Assistant Lecturers
- 1 Graduate Assistant -II Academic
- 17 Academic Technical Assistants
- 7 Administrative Staff
In addition to its educational programs, the College is actively engaged in problem-solving research, the provision of quality community services, and professional development training. Through a student-centered approach and a curriculum that emphasizes both theory and applied knowledge, the College is shaping competent, compassionate, and community-oriented health professionals.
Driven by a passion for community health and a commitment to academic excellence, the College of Medicine and Health Sciences continues to evolve as a center of excellence, working diligently to contribute to Ethiopia’s healthcare transformation and sustainable development.
