Public Health

Health is a milestone for national development. Public health department is established after a year of the establishment of College Medicine and Health Sciences in 2021. The department is responsible for protecting and improving the health of communities through education, policy-making, and research. In addition to teaching and research activities, it has key roles of Disease Prevention by implementing programs to control communicable diseases and reduce the incidence of chronic diseases, Health Promotion through educating the public on health issues and promoting healthy lifestyles, Policy Development by engaging in different national health dialogues and formulating health policies that address public health needs and promote health equity, Emergency Preparedness through Preparing for and responding to public health emergencies, such as epidemics and/or natural disasters, and Surveillance activities by Monitoring health trends and outbreaks to inform public health actions actors.

Currently the department has the following man power: One assistant professor with PhD, nine assistant Professors, nineteen lecturers, two assistant lecturers, and one administrative staff.  Four staffs are learning their PhD scholarship abroad, and two are enrolled in within the country. The department is undergoing with five post graduate (in regular, extension, and summer) programs.  The programs are MPH in Epidemiology, MPH in General Public Health, MPH in Public Health Nutrition, MPH Health Promotion and Behavior, and MPH in Reproductive Health in all programs. The department is striving to advance its program to PhD level.

Overall, public health department remain vital to ensuring community health and resilience in the face of evolving challenges specifically to communities it settled.
