The Department of Medical Laboratory Science at Injibara University was established in 2014 E.C. and commenced its teaching and learning activities with an initial enrollment of 15 students. At the time of its inception, the department operated with three instructors. Currently, it has grown significantly, boasting a total of 25 staff members. Among them, fourteen are lecturers, six are assistant lecturers, one is a Graduate Assistant II (GA II), and four serve as technical assistants.
In terms of infrastructure, the department is well-equipped with a skill laboratory that includes two demonstration rooms encompassing both dry and wet laboratories. These laboratories are furnished with advanced hematology and clinical chemistry automation systems, as well as modern microscopes and essential laboratory accessories. Furthermore, the department has made requisitions for various reagents and chemicals to enhance practical learning.
The department currently serves 129 students across five consecutive batches. Beyond its educational mandate, the department actively engages in research and community service initiatives. A notable achievement is the establishment of a microbiological culture facility at Injibara General Hospital in 2015 E.C., made possible through material support in collaboration with Injibara University.
Overall, the Department of Medical Laboratory Science continues to play a vital role in producing skilled professionals and contributing to the university’s broader goals in health education, research, and community service.
